I have a photo of my parents, right here next to my computer. They were young, just married. My dad with his hat rakishly to one side, my mom in a stylish felt hat with a short veil...the hint of red lipstick on her lips. It's the picture of them before they had all of their children, before they had a mortgage, or responsibilities. It's the picture of all of their possibilities. And everytime I look at it, I like to think that I was one of those possibilities.
This is a beautifully written song, Simon. It sweetly captures the mystery of our past and the realization that without all of them, even those we don't know or have lost touch with, have had their part in who we are. You're so good at getting it. You know what I mean? You get what is important and you are able to almost always put that into song. What a gift.

Roots-- we all have roots and some of us have wings. You have both, and this gentle song shows us that you do indeed have the power of flight. Beautiful, Simon!

Very nice work Simon, great to hear some new stuff from you. Love the vocals and lyrics, reminds me a bit of early Beatles in style (save the overdriven guitar), the quality is good. Nice ending too with the sustained powerchord.
Keep going with Cubase, it took me months to get it to do anything this good !!

I'll echo what Mary said...this just makes me want to go over to the bookshelf and pick up the framed photo of my mom....17 years old, standing on the sidewalk outside her childhood home, holding a cat, keeping the dog at bay......totally unaware of the camera....Thanks Simon...now I have to um.....find a hankerchief. Sounds really good btw.

Aww hell I come from such a warped and hateful family that I only have a dream idea of what this may be about. Of course I freed myself and created a loving supportive family for my kids, so a couple of generations from now, we may see some normal Tuckers about lol.
It is beautiful Simon, sincerely. I like the acoustic rhythm mostly, but the harmony is nice and the electric is cool too...

I have been listening to this a fair bit over the last week and I still love this track a hell of a lot.
This really captures the feelings of its words so well. I love the harsher electric guitar breaks. The harmonies that have such a haunting feeling. This is all such classic Simon Waldram. This is as Ghost puts it so simply a beautiful song. Fantastic writing and up there with the best work you have yet to produce.

i'm actually listening to the words for a change without a puzzled look on my face like usual. the entry of the fuzzguitar was great, it was like adding a "wtf?" to the lyrics, which i think is fitting. Nice "ahhs", i always like backing "oos" and "ahhs" Nice one!

Wow. Very lovely song. I actually thought that distorted guitar was a violin for a second. That's a great tone.
Very nice. When you write a song like this, it's because you mean it. Well done.

Great lyrics and I really like the backing vocal harmonies.
Some nice dynamics too when it goes back to just acoustic guitar and then you build it back up again with the vocals and then the electric
Great work

This is un-effing-believable. I've got chills from this. Had to stop and sit and listen and stop typing and working here. This song knocked me on my ass.
"Here he's singing something, but I'll never know the song." Brilliant lyrics.
The backing vocals are haunting. This has to be my favorite track of yours.

Great tune! Good recording of it too!
I'd put it in a folk/accoustic category instead of "alternative" despite the occasional "grungey" distorted guitar fills, but congrats bigtime on the nomination anyways! (It is a VERY deserving song!)

Wow. What a fantastic gem.
It does have a bit of a Beatles/Rubber Soul ambience....but not blatent.
The distorted electric blends in brilliantly.
The lyrics and vocal performance are simply hypnotic.
I totally enjoyed this tune.

The acoustic guitar sounds real nice and has a "shimmering" quality to it, at least to my ears. The overall mood is sweet and breezey and I like the words.

nice, subdued feel to the lyrics, not pushing it too hard, just telling a story.
?what a strange choice for the electric guitar sound!
you sound like jacco gardner on this tune, and that is a huge compliment.

Just passing thru for another listen.. I really miss my grandfather this time of year..I now know a lot more about my Dad's dad that I never got to meet. He sounded like a wonderful man I can be proud of! THis song is just so beautiful and full of love! I would like to download it and play it when we go to bury my Grandmother's ashes next to my grandfather's grave if you don't mind. I know it may sound creepy, but this song just touches me in a way that I think My grandmother would love this song. Thanks for sharing your beautiful art!
